Le Maison d'Olivier History

Le Maison d’Olivier  constructed in 1855 as a part of plantation system, 302 Olivier showcases the diverse cultural and architectural legacy of Algiers Point. From the initial French traders that settled the land to the enslaved laborers who laid its foundation, the structure on th corner of Pelican and Olivier has been a silent observer of an intricate range of human experiences. Listed on the National Registry of Historic places in 1978, 302 Olivier has been a focal point of community life for almost two-centuries. The structure has served as a Masonic hall, dormitory during the Algiers Fire of 1895, Recorder's court, police station, assessor's office, and dance hall. After a full restoration in 2024, Le Maison d'Olivier (The House on Olivier Street) stands proudly as a testament to the past and a beacon for future generations.
